Zoom Presentation: Worlds of Difference, Worlds of Meaning, Worlds of Encounter: Interreligious Understanding in the 21st Century
Dr. Celia Deutsch, a scholar of early Judaism and early Christianity, hosts the presentation “Worlds of Difference, Worlds of Meaning, Worlds of Encounter: Interreligious Understanding in the 21st Century.” Dr. Deutsch is a Sister of Our Lady of Sion, a Catholic order with a particular commitment to interfaith relations and social justice based on the study of Scripture, in addition to being a research scholar in the Religion Department at Barnard College, where she taught from 1985 to 2012.
Dr. Deutsch is also a lecturer at Holy Trinity College in Harare, Zimbabwe where she travels every two years to teach. She holds a doctorate in New Testament and early Jewish studies from St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto. She serves as a consultant at the Interfaith Center of New York and has been an active and founding member of the Interfaith Coalition of Brooklyn.
The presentation will explore “moments” of interreligious encounter in antiquity and in our era. Dr. Deutsch will discuss ways in which people are working to care for our earth and build a more equitable world for all.
A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
